Lynn's Life Story

I believe a trial can also be a gift.  The rare stomach bacteria that attacked five infants in a South Africa hospital in 1957 spared only one life…mine.  That’s because an antibiotic ordered by a pediatric specialist from the United States arrived too late to save one of the other babies.  Those grieving parents generously gave the medication to me, along with the gift of life. However, the bacteria bound me to years of suffering. My childhood was plagued by irritable bowel syndrome, spastic colon, and a hiatal hernia. Unexpected flare-ups were common, leading to chronic diarrhea and severe dehydration that would often put me in the hospital.

At age 20, my condition took a turn for the worse.  I had a severe allergic reaction to shellfish and soon after that episode I was diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. My first pregnancy in my early 20's was really challenging, I spent almost 7 months is bed. For the next 30 years, I endured yearly bouts of pneumonia and/or pleurisy.  I also battled multiple sinus infections each year that would invariably escalate into bronchitis or bronchial asthma.  I developed a sensitivity to a growing list of cosmetics, antibiotics, mold and other known allergens that didn’t seem tied to my environment, as I had immigrated to the United States in 1983 and still suffered.  I was always wheezing and trying to cope with watery eyes and stomach pain from the IBS, spastic colon and leaky gut, often intensified to the point that I was doubled over and unable to walk.

I had gone to so many doctors and specialists throughout the years, but none were able to assuage my symptoms and bring me the relief I needed to live a normal life.  Instinctively, I knew that food was the root cause of my conditions, but every doctor I saw shot down my theories. I felt like no one was listening! So, I began to educate and treat myself. I devoured any diet information I could get my hands on. I learned about food groups and their link to bodily reactions. I tried various diet strategies, from macrobiotic diets to vegan to well-known plans like Atkins. In fact, the Atkins Diet was able to give me some measure of relief. However, the sinus issues, asthma and joint pain persisted.

It wasn’t until 2013, that I met a nutritionist, Geri Brewster,  who was finally able to bring me the healing I had been searching for my entire life. She put me on a plan that removed all gluten, dairy, grain and sugars. Immediately, I felt like a different person. I was actually able to fill my lungs with air when I talked. I couldn’t believe this was normal! I also couldn’t believe that over five decades of suffering could be reversed within just one week.

To me, that’s a miracle. And the only side-effect I have experienced is an insatiable passion to share this knowledge with others, to teach them to be expert label readers, and to empower them to heal themselves with food. It is now my joy to counsel others via private consultation, to give enlightening cooking classes, and to create mixes for delicious baked goodies that are free of gluten, grains, dairy, refined sugars and preservatives.

I call these goodies “Lynn’s Life” because that is what they have saved. But “Lynn’s Life” is even more than amazing bread mixes, it’s a movement for all people who are “sick of feeling sick.”  It’s a community for anyone who wants to become food-conscious, take charge of their health and honor the greatness of their body.

I believe a trial can also be a gift. Though I never let my illness stop me from living life to the fullest, I now know I was a prisoner to dysfunction and pain. Despite my many different successful careers from art gallery owner, to artist and event planner, to private pilot, Feng Shui designer and spiritual healer, I have never felt more potent and empowered as I do today. I am able to look back on my own agonizing journey and feel true gratitude. My trial revealed my mission. And I urge you to look at your own journey with the same measure of compassion. The health issues you have been struggling with, no matter how unbearable, have brought you to a great place of self-discovery and healing . . . they have brought us together.  I am honored to partner with you in this journey towards vibrant health and joy.

Let’s begin.

with love and gratitude
